Resource mentorship

Someone who stays

When the urgent things are sorted, you can keep meeting a mentor: the same person each time, for as long as it helps. It’s free.

What people work on

What people work on with a mentor

  • A budget that works
  • A job
  • A résumé
  • TAFE or a course
  • Your licence
  • Paperwork
  • Getting back on track with Centrelink
  • A safe place to live
  • Confidence
  • A plan for next year

You choose. Your mentor helps you get there, one step at a time.

Beside you, never above you

What a mentor is, and isn’t

A mentor is

  • Someone on your side
  • The same person every time
  • Practical: they help you do things, not just talk about them
  • There for as long as it helps

A mentor isn’t

  • A case manager checking up on you
  • Reporting on you to Centrelink or anyone else
  • Going to tell you what to do
  • A counsellor. But they can help you find one

How it works

Start small. Keep going.

  1. 01 · Any time

    Ask

Ask at the front desk, or tell whoever you’re seeing. You don’t need a referral.

  2. 02 · Soon after

    Meet your mentor

A first chat about what matters to you. No forms to fill in, no tests.

  3. 03 · Regularly

    Keep meeting

At the centre or by phone. You set the goals and go at your own pace.

  4. 04 · As long as it helps

    Stop, or come back

Stop when you’re ready. Come back any time, and you can ask for the same person.

Our mentors

On your side

A mentor is here for one reason: to help you get where you want to go.

  • Want a different mentor? Just ask. You won’t need to explain why.

Questions people ask

Does it cost anything?

No. Mentoring is free, always.

Do I have to be getting other help from you first?

No. You can come in just for mentoring.

Is this connected to my Centrelink obligations?

No. We don’t report to Centrelink or your employment provider. But your mentor can help you meet what they ask of you.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes. A friend, a family member or a support worker is welcome.
